What Are You Reading? (Summer Reads) ~I just started Lust & Wonder: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs. It's pretty good so far. I think he's a great author. I've read a few of his other books, "Running With Scissors" "This Is How: Surviving What You Think You Can't" and "Dry" As always, do you enjoy holding an actual book in your hand or are you a tablet person? (just curious). "Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.” |

I'm reading "In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Damily in Hitler's Berlin." It's a nonfiction account of the American Ambassador in Berlin before the start of WWII. It's incredibly well written. "Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”

E-readers are comfortable and I read mostly on them of late, but still read real books.

I prefer a real book. The Origin of Consciousness In The Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by Julian Jaynes It's a fascinating speculation about consciousness. And I 'm reading out loud to my (role play) Daughter The Sercret of Dreadwillow Carse Sometimes we're apart for about 2 weeks, so I'll send her a recording of a chapter. "Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”

I enjoy the feel of real books, but I do have a number downloaded to my Kindle and Audible. My last listen during a roadtrip was Death By Food Pyramid. Fascinating to me. "Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”

I'm currently reading volume 2 of James Ellroy's crime saga This Storm, about LA right after Pearl Harbor. I just finished the first volume, Perfidia. It's an acquired taste, and I haven't acquired it. Tough reading, but great writing. One of the few authors Stephen King endorses. Don't read it. It's too cynical for you. I've just run out of decent mysteries and crime novels to read. On a loftier note, Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms is next on my reading list. I recently finished Bamboo and Blood, a mystery that takes place in North Korea, written by a pal of mine who actually knows a good deal about the place, James Church. In my pursuit of enlightenment, at the instigation a female acquaintance, I've also been perusing Reflections on Positive Emotions and Upward Spirals by Barbara Fredrickson and Thomas Joiner. I read the last online, the rest are real books. I just put a hold on Lust and Wonder at the library. It's gotta be better than chasing fifth columnists in LA.. lol "Men need to hunt. She obviously understands this. She’s offering herself as prey. Not easy prey. But willing.”
